Beaches, Swimming, Surfing & Windsurfing

Swimming AreasThe park has designated ocean swimming areas in the central portion of the park during the summer season.
LifeguardsSwimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty in designated areas.
SurfingSurfing is allowed south of the swimming beaches during the summer months.
WindsurfingWindsurfing is permitted in marked ocean beach areas at the southern end of the designated swimming area.

Fishing & Surfcasting Guide

Surf FishingIsland Beach State Park is well known for saltwater surf fishing, especially striped bass and bluefish.
Other SpeciesAnglers may also target summer flounder, weakfish, and tautog near Barnegat Inlet during appropriate seasons.
Fishing AccessSaltwater fishing is allowed along the ocean beach except in designated swimming areas, and park fishing access is open 24 hours.
Mobile Sport Fishing VehiclesA Mobile Sport Fishing Vehicle permit is required to drive eligible 4x4 or AWD vehicles onto designated fishing beaches.

Kayaking & CanoeingCanoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards may be launched from bayside Area 15 and Area 21 only.
Horseback RidingHorseback riding is permitted seasonally from October 1 through April 30 with prior reservations.
